Principle of operation The Parshall flume is a traditional device for measuring flow in open channels of liquids flowing by gravity. Basically, the Parshall flow meter consists of a convergent section, a strangulated “throat” section and a divergent section, arranged in plan. The bottom of the unit is level in the converging section, sloping in the "throat" and sloping in the diverging section.
